01.08DIY iPhone Binder Clip Dock
In my first How To video, I’ll show you how to turn a bunch of binder clips into an iPhone/iTouch/iPod dock that should work with most cases.
note: I’m using the 3g cable that came with my 3g iPhone.

im talking about how the dock is at an angle so the phone is also at an angle and the phone is going to loosen the connectors over time

If I recall correctly, the power carried over USB is less than 5V DC and at a very low amperage. So no, you’d be fine.

if the wires rip off, and I think the binder clips conduct electricity, if so then you’re fucked

FOR THE HORDE!!!!

What are you talking about? The connectors line up when the iPhone makes a successful connection to the dock connector. The pressure might not be great for the plastic on the cable, but whatever.

All good songs but i would’ve went more with something like;
TyDi – meet me in kyoto
dabruck & klein – Don’t dub
sultan & ned shepard – Jeopardy (16 bit Lolitas Mix)
Nice diy, though =)

that is extremely bad for the connectors. your connectors will be all loose after a while and your device will no longer charge unless you get the contacts to line up.

Yea, the newer sync cable doesn’t have the side release buttons. I believe the old ones are a bit longer too, so it may protrude more out of the binder clip.

Ok, solved the problem with the use of a zip-tie. Works well for those wanting to use an older iPod cable. just tighten the zip-tie around the the connector so that it presses the release buttons in. Make sure you tighten it such that the loop on the zip-tie is tucked around the back of the connector.

Is there something special about the USB cable that came with the iPhone 3G? I’m using an older cable here at work (from an iPod) that has little releases on either side of the connector that you have to press to get the iPod (or iPhone in this case) out. Does the cable that came with the 3G not have these? I remember the conector itself being a little smaller.
