June 15th, 2009 at 11:23 am
What kind of pump are you using there for your return? If you spent 30 bucks pump and all that must have been a 20 dollar pump. I would love something like that!

June 15th, 2009 at 11:23 am
Does the siphon flow faster than the pump? I’m having trouble with finding the equilibrium between the two. Thanks.

i wont have an overflow problem, ive got the water levels set to where the siphon dies before the sump overflows, and if the power comes back on it will not overflow the tank. ive already tested it
June 15th, 2009 at 11:23 am
Man spend the money on a proper overflow. I paid like $50 for the overflow and it can start the syhpon after a power failure. The first time your power goes out you are gonna find water all over the place when the pump pumps all the water out of the sump…..

not sure what happened to my question but I’ll post again. What is the purpose of an overflow box? Can’t I just put a hose (with a screen over the end so fish dont get suucked into the hose) right into the aquarium sucking wateer down into the sump? Im researching on how to make a sump and I dont understand the NEED for an overflow. Thanks.
June 15th, 2009 at 11:23 am
i am researching on making a sump for my 55 gallon saltwater tank, my question if anybody can answer is: why do I need an overflow? Can’t I secure the hose to the tank and have it suck water right out of the tank into the sump? I could just put a screen over the hose so fish and etc don’t get sucked into the hose. I don’t understand WHY an overflow is needed. Thanks.
