02.11Do It Yourself Closet Organization
Do it yourself closet organization can be quite a journey, even with the best advice. Meghan Carter of http://www.AsktheDecorator.com discovered first-hand the trials and tribulations of closet organization as she put herself under the scrutiny of professional organizer Cynthia Ivie. But in the end, Meghan not only organized her closet, but found a great excuse to go shopping.

I wish my closet were as big as this one. Good tips for those having trouble organizing. I have done my cloth sorting this way for some time–but I’ve seen other good stuff as well. Thanks for the vid! ^_^ But how would you recommend organizing a dorm wardrobe? It’s about 5ft tall by 3ft long.

why were the links that white space sent to you not included in the video or description? It would have been very helpful for the viewer to receive those resources as well. Great vid though:)

2. Create a shoe storage system in your room. You could use a dresser. If you use a dresser, you could put fancy shoes in one drawer, tennis shoes in another, etc. Another way to do it would be to get a standing shoe rack for a closet. Put your shoes on it. Then get fabric and attach it around the sides and front of the rack to cover the shoes. It will look very shabby chic or country.

That is a tough one. If you can’t move the dresser out of your closet into your room, then I have two suggestions. 1. Store your shoes in clear boxes and put them on the highest shelf of your closet. It may be inconvenient but at least they are out of the way and you can see what you have.

You’re not kidding. Luckily, maintaining the order isn’t difficult once you have a system. Thanks for the reminder that you’re never truly finished organizing. It’s an ongoing task.

And the important part is continuing to maintain the closet well organized!

I feel your pain. But even the smallest closets can have one or two cool organization features.

Jaysato,
Thanks so much! Wooden hangers work just as well. The only reason clear ones are suggested is because they don’t block the colors of the clothes, which allows you to easily scan what you have. But you’re not alone, many people prefer the beauty of wood hangers.
Thanks again!

Ungrateful people, at least you HAVE closets.

youre cute. thanks for the informative video. i used wooden coat hangers for my clothes. i think it was from the old Queer Eye show i learned from on tv few years ago.
I have a habit of consistencies. So the hangers work well.
